why can't people pronounce it properly ? Yesterday on R4 someone said 'deteriate'- arghh

I have a super-posh neighbour who says ghaaarsy for ghastly. And she says it a lot.

I don't feel terribly offended by haitch to be honest. It's like feeling offended that the Welsh call Hula Hoops Oola Oops.
