I'm always uneasy about whether apostrophes ought to be demanded in public/commercial signs. If you object to "Kings Road" or "Rayners Lane", why not to "Claridges" and "Selfridges" and "Harrods"? And is it Marks and Spencer's or Marks' and Spencer's or Marks's and Spencer's....?

In the case of established names, whether street signs or company names, I say let it go.

I took ds2 to speech therapy today and the large sign in there said CHILDRENS SERVICES RECEPTION. I'll take a marker pen with me next time.

Oooh - all the Harrogate signs made me all home sick!
