The thing being possessed is Pimms, so the apostrophe would go after the Pimms. However, I think it looks better without.

You don't say beer's tent or beers' tent, do you?

VintageGardenia · 05/07/2008 06:45

Yes, Pimms tent.

It's presumably the tent where you can get Pimms. Heineken tent, buffet tent, or whatever, not possessive.

Fayre, now, I might have issues with!

excellent
thank you
not bothered about fayre fair or ferrweather. as long as it doesnt rain. [horror]

Enjoy yourself!

Tigerschick · 05/07/2008 07:21

Agree - no apostrpohe.

WRT the fair/fayre thing ... this is interesting.

Hope you have a great time and don't get wet ... just stay in the tent

PeaMcLean · 05/07/2008 07:50

Whilst I admire anyone who can discuss apostrophes before breakfast, Tigerschick's link just throws up even more questions: "an historick flavour" ???

Too early for this

Tigerschick · 05/07/2008 11:14

LOL PeaMcLean - I think they are trying to be amusing ...

PeaMcLean · 05/07/2008 13:33

LOL, they're witty characters at Oxford English Dictionaries aren't they! What japes they must have.

Glad you had a good day.

DH saw this thread and said that a real pedant would be less worried about the apostorophes than whether the Pimms was served in the way described on the bottle - with ice, lemon, mint or borage and cucumber skin - or turned into a floating fruit salad. I'm still trying to get him to see the important things in life!

CatWithKittens · 07/07/2008 09:55

Oh dear -that should read apostrophes. Do not try to type whilst feeding DD4.

stitch · 08/07/2008 14:38

i thnk it was turned into a floating fruit salad. sadly
but still made £483.31 including the sale of indian bites like samosas etc.

Totaally off topic but my father in law has a recipe for "mock Pimms" which is very good too and a lot cheaper than the real thing. 11 fluid ounces of dry white vermouth, 7 fl.oz. of red vermouth, 5 fl.oz. of brandy OR gin and 3 fl. oz of Cointreau to make a 26 fl.oz bottle of base to which you add lemonade etc in the ordinary way.

asicsgirl · 14/07/2008 19:34

cat that sounds lovely...

also off topic but i misread this thread title as 'pimps' tent'...
