Could a pedant help me write a letter. Applying for a job

That is technically not advertised, so abit cheeky? I applied to a hotel resturant as assistant manager. But turned it down when I did a trial, as I thought the manager was useless... Now he has gone/ been sacked etc etc. I want to write a letter to the GM asking for the Managers job... but I can't because I am useless at the written word.

They are advertising, but through an agency.. I want to apply direct like I did last time. (only a couple of months ago)

you think she should put "restauranty" LL? I wouldn't like receiving a letter with a made up word in it, tbh.

How about "I am highly experienced in all things managerial and have a proven track record in the catering industry"

Have you thought about phoning the General Manager? Do you know him? Then you can just send him your cv with a short covering note:

Dear x

As discussed, I would like to apply for the position of Manager at xxx. Please find enclosed my cv.

etc

I think 'I have X years management experience etc' sounds better than 'experience in all things managerial' imo

I'd recommend a phone call. Speak to GM and say "Hello I believe xx has no left, would you consider me for the manager position. May I come to see you with my CV"

when you ring them, don't use the word "restauranty"

unless of course, you are saying "Ristorante" with a northern accent, then you can get away with it

I want to be upfront about the fact that I have already been for a trial (the head chef could possibly remember me) some of the waiting staff definatly... Do I say that in the phone call?

Better in a phone call I think. But easier if you know him, obv

yes, I would. I would tell them that you felt that you would be unable to work with the former manager, so you turned down the position, however, that was the only thing that you didn't like about the place, and now he's gone...

Be honest, if they have to wonder about why you didn't want the job then, but do now, they may come up with all sorts of ideas that are untrue and way worse that the previous manager being a tosser

I think it's a great word, squonk, and was chuffed when someone described me as such this week. But some MNers would have you hung, drawn and quartered for using it. See here
