...whose name is all in lower case, but their name is at the beginning of your post, do you capitalise their name? If the name gets capitalised, it isn't strictly their posting name, but if you don't the sentence starts with a lower case word.

I would start the name with a capital letter,

MrsThierryHenry · 01/07/2008 22:36

I write it as they've written it. It's the only respectful thing to do.

RoxyNotFoxy · 02/07/2008 09:01

You capitalize it, just you would capitalize any other word that starts a sentence, whether that word is normally capitalized or not.

misselizabethbennett · 03/07/2008 13:15

I wouldn't use a capital letter. MN names are not like real names and therefore the same rules don't apply.

motherinferior · 03/07/2008 13:17

Interesting point.

Almost everyone capitalises me, despite my consistently anti-capitalist stance. Interestingly, though, I don't madly mind - unlike the quite homicidal rage I feel for the (many) people who misspell my RL names.

Tommy · 03/07/2008 13:19

lol motherinferior - I feel the same about my capital

Have sneaked into pedant's corner despite not knowing how to spell accomodation (argh!)

And realised that my name could do with an apostrophe but didn't think I could put one in when I joined.

Is it really annoying for all you self-proclamed pedants to see bad grammar in names (even if I know where to put the apostrophe, promise!)?
