Pedants' corner

Every sentence on a new line

Not sure if this is strictly pedantry, but is any one else slightly irritated by the growing trend of every sentence of a post being on a new line?
I assume it comes from texting which has become punctuation free so each sentence is a standalone message.
It makes everything seem overly profound.
But I suppose it is better than the single paragraph streams of consciousness that you also see.

No, I'm not angry at all. I simply find some things tiresome and use a colloquialism to express that. It wasn't me who got their posts deleted, was it?

I assumed it was an AI style of writing as it seemed to emerge at the same time as AI fell into popular use.

I think it was people unused to the purpose of Pedants' Corner who stumbled in by accident and then got angry about it.😂

They must have been absolutely fumming if they wrote something that got deleted.

I didn't get that far. Probably something not a truth and not universally acknowledged.

I thought the words were a lazy journalist's way of bumping up the word count.

Here we go
'It is a truth universally acknowledged that pretty much everyone hates it if you bring any family members to friends meet up. Even if they grit their teeth and say it’s fine they are lying.'

PinkHibiscusFlowers · 16/09/2026 12:29

Definitely an AI thing. I’ve noticed this and other AI traits falling in everywhere now.

Please do stick around though, you might find it is the right room after all. 😉

I don't think this is new - I had to stop reading Watermelon (1995) because Marian Keyes did this throughout!

Dovesono · 16/09/2026 23:09

Massively irritated. it's not a bloody poem.

I’m really curious to know how a post in Pedants’ corner can apparently provoke such vitriol!

I find this seriously annoying, and saw it on a thread just a few minutes ago.

Why do people start a new paragraph for every sentence?

It irritates the shit out of me.

See what I mean?

Aarghhh.

😠

🤣
