LOL of course people who spell them draws pronounce them as such, always makes me laugh at school when the kids write somethink, because thats how they say it!

Flier · 29/06/2008 15:20

I have honestly never heard someone pronounce drawers as draws - is it an english thing (I'm scottish)

I worked with someone who used to write "chester draws".

I couldn't believe that someone could reach the age of 35+, do a degree etc and still not realise that it is chest of drawers.

ChasingSquirrels · 29/06/2008 15:27

I am really struggling with this, I write it as drawers (because that is the correct spelling), but I am sitting here saying "draws" and "drawers" out loud (and "chest of drawers") and I really can't hear the difference.

UnquietDad · 30/06/2008 10:05

John Lewis even had it printed as "draws" on their wooden advent calendar! I almost took it back!!

Littlefish · 30/06/2008 10:07

I'm with you chasingsquirrels. The way I say it doesn't change.

How do the rest of you say draws/drawers?

BettySpaghetti · 30/06/2008 10:10

I say draws but, unlike ex-colleague I referred to earlier, know that its written drawers

at John Lewis -how can that pass them by?

girlandboy · 30/06/2008 10:12

Blimey, how do you say drawers then?

fryalot · 30/06/2008 10:12

I say draws.

I think it sounds exactly the same as when dd2 draws a picture. Maybe it's a Northern thing?

EffiePerine · 30/06/2008 10:15

I say draws (but spell drawers of course). Must be a dialect thing.

girlandboy · 30/06/2008 10:20

Is it pronounced dror-erz?
I've always pronounced drawers and draws the same.
Although I did know someone who got mad if "drawing" was pronounced as "draw-ring".

Flier · 30/06/2008 11:47

drawers is pronounced draw erz and not draw z

it must be a dialect thing, maybe scots or northeners are more likely to emphasise the R's in words?

am at john lewis though

Is it an i-ron or
an ion - which is to do with physics?
