Non is not the same as none.

These two are constantly mixed up. Very annoying! I've just seen 'a none sleeping baby...' It's NON. None means 'not one'. In my accent, non rhymes with con and none rhymes with bun. Obviously I know that's not the case with all accents, but it may help a few people who are unsure, distinguish the difference.

I've seen it a few times, most on Social Media. I think it's another one of the 'loose/lose' brigade, where people who don't read except other SM posts are just replicating what they've seen. They don't even seem to care much whether it's correct or not and will just give it the 'you could tell what I meant, so why does it matter?'

SM is all digital communication.
Of course there are going to be people with a poor grasp of the English language.

And mostly Facebook, to be honest, where I have to avoid all the local pages because otherwise I'd swear that nobody who lives within a five mile radius of me actually went to school.

This annoys me too. In much of the Midlands/North the two are pronounced the same but it's still annoying. It's either "none" meaning "not one" or "non-X" meaning "without X". Only "non-" needs a hyphen and you'd think that would be an easy aide memoire to tell them apart, but apparently not!

I've not seen it but it would annoy me. I am staggered, actually, at what seems to be the decline in people knowing how to spell words or what those words should be (rest spike care, Chester draws, etc ). We have more communication than ever and people don't leave school until they're eighteen. And yet...
The other day, DD and her friend (both 32) had never heard of Daniel Defoe or Robinson Crusoe, and last night on Picture Slam none of the six contestants seemed to know there's a donkey character in A Midsummer Night's Dream. I find it very sad. But then, I don't know many of the brands! So maybe they'd find me sad!

The 'really serious' posts on FB lose a lot of credibility and impact when they make you wince with all the terrible spelling and grammar!

I generally just read threads in Active.

e.g.

"Seen these posted back of queens square, answers why library staff car park and front of library is being filled with non staff cars. If you put them up in know who did can they be removed please or worded differently. Ie library removed!"

Whatever does it mean? "I have seen these posted at the back of Queen's Square." Maybe.

They actually got the 'non' right though. Surprised it didn't say 'none staff cars'. Wonders will never cease.

I see it all the time on Google calendars. Lots of people have none working days, apparently.
