Where does the apostrophe go when one is discussing the milk of several sheep? Is it...

sheep milk
sheep's milk
sheeps' milk

We are having this discussion at work but have got all confused because obviously the plural of sheep is, well, sheep so when we introduce the possessive "s" does that affect the position of the apostrophe?

please?

thank you

This website says sheep's milk.

PortAndLemon · 12/06/2008 10:47

Sheep's milk, I think. Or "milk from sheep"...

Porpoise · 12/06/2008 10:47

sheep's milk (cos there ain't no such thing as sheeps, so they can't have a possessive)

castille · 12/06/2008 10:47

Sheep's milk, definitely

The apostrophe after the S looks all wrong.

TigerFeet · 12/06/2008 10:48

Bugger, colleague was right, I was wrong

Like fish?

TigerFeet · 12/06/2008 10:51

dd still says sheeps (3.11yo)

I think it's cute but I suppose I ought to correct her...

dd (23 months) was watching the football on telly with me the other day and observed: 'Mans .... go ROUND and ROUND and ROUND'. Also too cute to correct.

Habbibu · 12/06/2008 22:08

It's really cool, I think, when children contstruct plurals - I mean, they've not heard sheeps or mans as a rule, so it shows they're developing an understanding of grammatical rules - I think it's called regularisation in this case. It's a fantastic step.

Habbibu · 12/06/2008 22:10

And Botbot, could you please get ds to be a football commentator? So succinct and precise - let's face it, that's pretty much all that happens...
