Cooperation is a housing estate for pigeons. It's co-operation.
No one knows who Noone is.

Noone really gets on my tits.

My instinct is still with you, but I think the days when it was usually hyphenated are long gone. I have grown accustomed to 'coop...' and no longer baulk at it. I was professionally concerned with co-production, and found the hyphen there chipped away at too.

Now that technology makes it easy, maybe you should try to promote the use of a diaeresis and write it as coöperation? I think I’ve occasionally seen ‘coöperative’.

Fionasapples · 04/11/2025 04:51

The only Noone I know is Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits!

Please, no! English is complicated enough already. Surely only 'imported' words have such adornments, and even then we drop them eventually.

Alot. Abit.

That's just wrong but another big terrible thing is

I want to be apart of that

Means the opposite of what they're trying to say.

My issue with coops and noones is people think they are correct and..... they're not! 😫

I would but I'm limiting myself to the hyphen. I'd verge on pretentious if I started using that thing (which I just learned about today and thought was confined to other languages)

You may tempt me though!

Nope. Hyphenation is gradually disappearing for a lot of words. Cooperation and coordination are both accepted in British English.

I know. This is my issue.

Coops is where pigeons live.

Isn’t it corporation? , A housing co-operation doesn’t make sense

'Cooperation' is the collective noun for pigeons.

Well it’s likely that they’re in some sort of echo chamber ie social media where other users spout the same rubbish so it validates them

MyFlabbersAreGasted · 04/11/2025 10:15

I agree with your point of you on this for sure x

SprayWhiteDung · 04/11/2025 10:27

Cooperation sounds like a workers' union for barrel makers!
