This, along with appauling, is another common and irritating misspelling, I think that people get confused with illusion and delusion and make it into a portmanteau word.

Also the word appal isn’t a common standalone word anymore so people don’t have that root in mind when spelling appalling and they go by ear instead, because it sounds like it should contain Paul.

Another one I see a lot is discusting.

Well, you're not wrong to find it annoying but I have to say I haven't come across dillusion. I mean, spell check doesn't like it but I suppose people ignore that. As to the others, yes, super annoying. People don't read and therefore don't see words written properly, sadly, so it's only going to get worse.

Another one I see a lot is discusting.

In everyday speech a lot of people pronounce it more like discusting and weaken the g sound or don't say it at all, especially in fast or casual speech, and like @AgentPidge says, lots of people only read things on social media and reinforce their own mistakes rather than read, you know, books! If they're going by what they hear they will probably make a connection with the word discus and think that's how it's spelled.

@AndreaMarvell yes I think it's obvious that's why people get words wrong.
