This is from a local outstanding school. It's not the only example I've collected over the years!

Who's or whose

Tell them.

upinaballoon · 02/07/2025 19:20

Yes, tell them, if necessary in an unsigned letter. That seems cowardly, I know.

Just copy it out and underneath write

'Who's', not here please. Try 'whose'.

upinaballoon · 02/07/2025 19:22

What is a transition taster day, please? Something about going to big school?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 02/07/2025 19:23

Oddly enough, this one doesn't set my teeth on edge quite as much as 'your an idiot' or 'I need to loose weight'. No idea why. My eye seems to glide over it, my brain says 'that's wrong', and then I glide on.

I am STILL aggravated about the poor 'tree's' though.

I think it's easy to make a mistake with homophones when typing. I don't do it when I'm handwriting but often do it on WhatsApp etc.

If it's WhatsApp, I can usually catch it quickly enough to edit. I love that FB and Slack let me edit even after a delay. Mumsnet frustrates me because I sometimes pick up mistakes after I've posted and then I can't change it.

I don't think there's a problem that someone wrote the wrong word when writing this but there should be a system where someone else checks letters etc to pick up on typos.

PanderBare · 02/07/2025 19:30

Wrong is wrong, but a school should not be making mistakes like that.
What's worrying is the way SM is peppered with errors like 'your an idiot' or 'I need to loose weight'.

I'd say that tree's is glaringly wrong, whereas who's is more of a 'that's not right'.

You can edit typos on Mumsnet.

PanderBare · 02/07/2025 19:43

You can edit typos on Mumsnet.
The window for editing a post on Mumsnet is a short one, but on Slack you can edit or delete your post hours after you posted.

cariadlet · 02/07/2025 19:47

Checking if I can edit because at one time I couldn't. Not sure if it's because I'm on the app or because it used to be a premium user feature.

Edit: Ooh! Now I can. That's handy to know. Thanks.

OK.

The school's message was probably checked with a spellchecker.

We've got a new AI feature ar work, and although it seems useful, I asked it a question today and the answer it gave was wrong. Assumptious idiot.

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 02/07/2025 20:19

I'm too scared to tell them! The HT letter attached had even more grammatical errors, it really annoyed me! I might print the letter and email out, correct it in red pen and send back anonymously...

This is the first time I've seen it referred to as a 'taster' day, but the transition day is when all the kids go up a year. So new EYFS spend part of the day in reception, the Y2s go to Y3, etc, and the Y6s go up to secondary school for a few days. It's really good as all the schools do it together where we are.

Copy and paste the email and letter here and we'll be brutal. Smile

What have you got to lose?

Cattery · 08/07/2025 16:35

If I ever received something like that from the school I used to correct it in red pen and return it
