Ancestors/descendants. I'm actually starting to doubt myself here.

I keeping hearing people using 'descendants' when I am sure they mean 'ancestors'. To me the difference is so obvious - your ancestors came before you, and your descendants come after, they are descended from you.

But I am hearing this SO MUCH recently from people who I am sure should know better that I'm almost doubting myself about it.

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? (And I am right, aren't I?! Please let me down gently if I'm not. But I am.)

You are right of course, you are the descendant of your ancestors!

You are right. I'd ask the next person who says it if they mean ancestors and see what they say. I wonder if they're confusing it with "antecedents"??
