BlackBerrys/BlackBerries

I'd like a view from my fellow pedants (I normally lurk on this board) about the correct plural for the gadget a BlackBerry. It is a trade name. It has a capital 'B' in the middle and ends in a 'y'. Does that make the plural BlackBerrys or BlackBerries?

It's driving me mad at work. Surely is has to be BlackBerries?

This sounds like a variation on the old "Walkmans"/"Walkmen" debate!

RibenaBerry · 19/05/2008 11:24

Walkmans? Oh goodness, does that mean BlackBerrys?

The fudging option in this case (which, when you think about it, you will have seen everywhere) is to refer to them as "BlackBerry devices". Would that help you R'Berry? Or are you just getting your teeth set on edge by what others are writing?

Threadwworm · 19/05/2008 12:12

The correct plural is 'CyberBling'. (If you have three or more it is strictly a 'punnet' of BlackBerries.)

RibenaBerry · 19/05/2008 12:53

Ha ha ha! I love the idea of the collective noun being a 'punnet'!

I think I'll stick with fudging it, as Bink suggests.

Oh, this seems to answer my question too. I've just bought a Stokke Xplory stroller from someone on ebay. I am planning to meet up with another MNer who also owns an Xplory. I wanted to write "I expect we'll spot each other because of our Xplorys" but I was struck with indecision!

Love punnet of BlackBerrys.
