Have never seen this with the apostrophe. Am I correct in thinking it should be there??

OP posts:
KatyMac · 18/05/2008 22:31

Is it not one week notice or 2 weeks notice?

tearinghairout · 18/05/2008 22:34

The apostrophe is correct. Possessive.

LittleMyDancing · 18/05/2008 22:36

If it's one week - if it's two weeks then it's two weeks' notice.

i think.

Pan · 18/05/2008 22:37

so should "two weeks notice" also have an apostrophe? Seems reasonable??

OP posts:
PortAndLemon · 18/05/2008 22:42

I have seen it with the apostrophe and would expect one. There was something of a pedants' revolt over the film title Two Weeks [sic] Notice.

ThinWhiteDuchess · 18/05/2008 22:42

Agree with KatyMac

onebatmother · 18/05/2008 22:45

a week's [worth of] notice, I think, pan, so yes, "a week's notice." A week notice? NOooo!

KatyMac · 18/05/2008 22:47

I'm giving you one week notice that so&so must happen by such&such? No - maybe not

UnquietDad · 18/05/2008 22:48

Pan - yes, it should. The posters advertising the film with Hugh Grant had it wrong. Lynne Truss mentions them in her book and refers to being tempted to go round defacing them.

onebatmother · 18/05/2008 22:49

sorry, that was very unclear.

A week's notice. [the notice of a week]

In a month's time. [The time belonging to a month]

Hope that is vastly clearer?

ThinWhiteDuchess · 18/05/2008 23:33

Oh Lordy, I have just gone to bed and this thread popped into my head and it dawned on me just how wrong I was in my original post. Of course it is one week's notice or two weeks' notice. Doh!

ThinWhiteDuchess · 18/05/2008 23:35

So I had to come downstairs and make amends -- I do not want people to think of me as dumb on my first posting in pendants' corner!

cornsilk · 18/05/2008 23:38

(That thinwhiteduchess is a real thicko.)

chunkychips · 18/05/2008 23:40

It's defo, one week's notice and two weeks' notice.

ThinWhiteDuchess · 18/05/2008 23:45

Can go back to bed now!
