Sorry pedants, you are probably all too sophisticated for this one but it really bugs me. As I am continually trying to lose about 10 pounds (pathetic I know), I look at various weight-loss forums etc for some inspiration and end up chewing the keyboard in frustration as not just some, not just half, but MOST PEOPLE want to LOOSE WEIGHT.... and a good number want to WEIGHT THEMSELVES - which actually sounds quite painful..Can you learn to ignore it? Or will it bug me forever? Do tell oh wise mumsnetters x

Well I was about to correct you so it pisses me off as well.
It will bug you forever I'm afraid.

Is it an Americanism do you think, that's just sort of caught on over here?

After 2 pregnancies, a lot of my weight is quite loose.

ShowOfHands · 02/05/2008 21:34

It's discusting grammer, really unneccessery ect ect

VacheFolle · 02/05/2008 21:37

LOL, 'grammer' makes me think of Cornish farmers...

..Their accents, nothing to do with their grammar!

And by the way, the plural of forum is fora!

ShowOfHands · 02/05/2008 21:42

I love your name VF. C'est magnifique.

VacheFolle · 02/05/2008 21:44

I stand corrected Somuch , Je vous remercie ShowOf..x

ShowOfHands · 02/05/2008 21:46

Pas de tout.

SoMuchToBits · 02/05/2008 21:49

Well, I thought if I didn't mention it, some other bugger would, sooner or later!

But do agree with you regarding "loosing" anything (not just weight) and as for "weighting" anyone - well, the mind boggles!

"Loosing" really really annoys me too.
Surely it should only ever be done to arrows?

susiecutiebananas · 02/05/2008 22:12

Oh, don't get me started on 'brought myself xyz...'

Why do they do it? WHY?????

bluefox · 02/05/2008 22:29

I just do not understand how anyone can confuse bought and brought - but it happens all the time.

VacheFolle · 02/05/2008 22:34

In Chinese 'buy' and 'sell' sound the same apart from the tone. Bet Chinese pedants are busy!

love2sleep · 06/05/2008 22:36

I just wrote a post about ds1's weight and just before hitting the "post" button noticed that I'd typed "loosing weight". It is all your fault! I can spell and I want to be a pedant but am easily confused

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/05/2008 22:42

Is it wrong to point out that you should have used inverted commas, and not apostrophes to highlight "LOOSE" and "WEIGHT"?
