Good evening, just wondering what thoughts are on empathetically or empathically please? I've sent both used.

Thank you.

They are both a bit clumsy, can you tweak it so that you say “with empathy”.

BananaGrapeMelon · 28/08/2024 17:07

I would assume empathetically, because it's definitely sympathetically not sympathically.

BabaYetu · 28/08/2024 17:10

They mean the same thing, either is acceptable.

OnTheRoll · 28/08/2024 17:11

It's two different words with different meanings.
Empathetically means with empathy
Emphatically means clearly, forcefully

Seymour5 · 28/08/2024 19:47

@OnTheRoll Emphatically isn’t mentioned, you must have misread.

I’m with @BabaYetu although empathetically is the usual usage. Empathic has been in use longer than empathetic, and they have the same meaning.

Thank you. I agree their use is a bit clumsy and.will see if I can reword.

Thank you, I didn't think to look at it in that way.

Thanks. As the other other poster says they are the same meaning. It catches me out too.

Thanks. I've heard empathetically more than I've heard empathically so I find that interesting.

This is correct.

This is correct.

The question wasn’t about emPHATically. The OP was asking about emPATHically or emPATHetically.

Of course emPHATically has a different meaning, it’s a completely different word.

It's 'empathetically' if you mean 'with empathy'.

It's only 'empathically' if you're at least half Betazoid like Deanna Troi and can accurately sense other peoples emotions.

Thank you for your post. I'm not a Trekkie so had to look that up.
