😂

Is that when you look under the settee to find something?

Plexie · 25/03/2024 15:36

Because 'lo' isn't a word in common usage and people don't know it?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 25/03/2024 15:37

Because nobody reads these days and it's very much a 'write what you hear' time. And because nobody's interested in the origins of words and phrases any more (big thanks to my English teacher who taught us a lot of Latin, it's been great for word origins and spelling).

Lo, oh poster, when I was eleven, about a week into the autumn term, I said to my aunt, "I can't do Latin!" "It's the root of lots of languages", she said. "You'll be all right." I didn't have any option of not doing it, and how pleased I am now, that it was compulsory then. A few of us are interested in how words come about :)

Yes. It's lo and behold. Shakespeare presumably.

Look and see.
