But if you transported something from a different place to your current location, then you have BROUGHT it.

Thank you.

ah yes, I hate this too.

Another thing I have noticed is a lot of news readers say " so and so has reverted BACK to blah blah blah". I hate that.

I honestly never knew that.

Talking about newsreaders, have you noticed how so many people are "hitting out" these days?

glad to put you right, tiredemma

When people say "repeat(ed) again" as in do/say a second time, I want to drop a piano on them. REPEAT MEANS DOING IT AGAIN YOU TWAT!!!!!

Report
MrsBadger · 20/03/2008 16:22

waste of a good piano, hecate

use an anvil, then you can haul it up again and drop it on someone else

Really hate when people say 'I'll learn you' instead of 'I'll teach you' as well as the borrow/lend thing and the bought/brought.

And why does the Guardian print 'airplane' instead of 'aeroplane'?

Isn't "repeat again" OK if it is a third or subsequent performance? I also don't mind the phrase "jobs being axed".

Sorry, I'll just get my coat...

Great topic!

My personal hates are people confusing less with fewer. If it can be counted, you say fewer.

And envious with jealous. (You are envious of someone else's swank Bugaboo buggy, but jealous of your own one if someone looks like they want to take it away.)

Would third or more be 'reiterate'? People often use this for 'repeat' though

Beautiful - my 7 year old ds has already had the difference between "less" and "fewer" drummed into him!

Fab! Now can you please come round and drum it into my husband? And teach him to spell "tomorrow" while you're at it.
