Pedants' corner

This section used to be amusing, now it's at risk of disappearing up its own arse.

but, to be fair, that might be because my recent typographical and grammatical brain-farts are making me feel thick.

please draw me a diagram of a corner's arse

motherinferior · 20/03/2008 13:32

A cul-de-sac, n'est-ce pas?

ChocolateRockingHorse · 20/03/2008 13:33

I like pedantry. It makes me feel calmer

hecate · 20/03/2008 13:33

Come on, how did you think it was going to go...this is mumsnet, the nesting site of the greater spotted pedant

RosaIsRed · 20/03/2008 13:35

Isn't pedantry introspective by its very nature?

WanderingTrolley · 20/03/2008 13:46

I take it to mean grammar pedantry, but occasionally someone stumbles in and starts ranting talking about the wrong way to hang loo paper and I think, nonono, that's not it at all.

VictorianPASqualor · 20/03/2008 13:49

LOL WT.

RosaIsRed · 20/03/2008 13:49

Is there a wrong way to hang loo paper?

WanderingTrolley · 20/03/2008 13:50

Yes Rosa.

Start a thread about it in Chat.

Threadworm · 20/03/2008 13:51

It's wrong to hang it without a proper trial first.

VictorianPASqualor · 20/03/2008 13:51

(You can hang it backwards Rosa, the toilet paper must be coming over the roll from behind, not under)

theyoungvisiter · 20/03/2008 13:53

my mum used to hang it the other way deliberately when we were small, because it's harder for a toddler to swipe the roll and unravel it all in an instant if it's hung backwards.

RosaIsRed · 20/03/2008 13:57

See here WT

WanderingTrolley · 20/03/2008 13:59

theyoungvisiter your mother was much deceived about the wit of toddlers.

theyoungvisiter · 20/03/2008 14:04

Oh I don't think she thought they COULDN'T unravel it hung backwards, it was more that when we were perched on our little loo seat we could reach out and one swipe would send the roll spinning around and around for ages (bad loo-roll holder design).

Whereas hung the other way you had to reach that bit further and scrabble the end away from the wall.

I like the fact that toilet paper is being discussed in a thread about disappearing up arses
