It's not completely exactly a pedantry point, and it's more a moral tautology than a semantic one, but dh & I collect [ponces that we are] examples of things like those ads for ambulance-chasing solicitors which make a point of solemnly announcing "All lawyers authorised by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority".

I think it started with one for a pawn-brokers that said "guaranteed honest valuations".

This is why I hardly venture into this topic it makes me feel thick.

But laws can be judged illegal accoring to some higher legal standard -- eg the US Constitution or Bill of Rights, or, in UK, human rights legislation, etc.

But doesn't legislation refer to rules that are specifically legal (eg the manner in which guns may be carried), rather than, say, relating to conforming (eg rules on how to wear a uniform)?
