“Spidery” senses

Ive been noticing this (incorrect) saying on MN a lot lately (as in “it set my spidery senses tingling”) and it’s driving me crazy. The correct form is “spidey” senses, from its original use in Spider-Man.

To be honest, I find ‘spidey senses’ fully as irritating, especially when used in a context where anyone (1) with a pulse and (2) conscious would have noticed whatever it was that sent the poster’s ’spidey/spidery senses’ ‘tingling’.

Actually the ‘tingling’ is mildly annoying too, come to think of it. Just say ‘I had a hunch something was going on.’

Agreed! But if someone uses the phrase they should at least use the correct one

I'd say it's an autocorrect in a lot of cases - I know my phone doesn't like it. It also likes to insist something is a "no brainier".

Bluevelvetsofa · 07/12/2023 22:54

Oh, I hate no brainier.

Personally, I try to avoid catch phrases from trashy films.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

It might not be your cup of tea but Spiderman films are hardly that. And the phrase was used in the comics way, way before any of the films.

I agree with you though OP, Spidery is a terrible.

Chest of draws is the one I really hate.

Trashy, not that
