Pick

Is anyone else hating the current trend of using 'pick' instead of 'choose'?

Maybe I'm wrong, but to me 'pick' is a random act, not a carefully considered action. I would pick a raffle ticket, or a flower, but I'd choose a brand new car etc

Anyone else?

Pick is a synonym of choose. It is perfectly acceptable to use it in this way.

Fair enough. I still don't like it though Confused

They may be synonyms, but they certainly have different connotations.

You would say "Choose carefully," but you're unlikely to say "Pick carefully.
