Fazed and phased

This is starting to annoy me 😂🙈. Was chatting to a colleague on teams and u said something like I'm not fazed by that and she said nothing phases me. I kept saying fazed/fazes and she kept saying phased/phases 😂. Just need to get that out there.

My blood pressure rose from reading that. Grr!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/10/2023 21:36

@Antst glad it's not just me 😂

I hadn't encountered "fazed" (or "phased") for at least five years, but people seem to be using it all of a sudden. I have seen "phased" three or four times in the past month or so. Maybe someone in a popular TV show has used it and triggered a tsunami of "phased."

LifeofBrienne · 24/10/2023 21:47

You realise she probably thought you were spelling it wrong and was trying to tactfully correct you?!

You missed an apostrophe too!

I growl at phased and also break or breaks for brake or brakes.

Faircastle · 24/10/2023 23:32

To be fair, it's possible that she was phased, if she was targeted by a futuristic fictional weapon. But fazed seems more likely, given the context.

Terfosaurus · 24/10/2023 23:39

I was just thinking that they Sound exactly the same to me. Then realised it was probably a written conversation. Blush

mathanxiety · 25/10/2023 02:32

Lol, me too.

People simply don't read books, and together with the advent of social media and texting, and disapproval of correction of spelling and grammar on social media, the result is that the language is being corrupted really quickly.

This irritates me hugely too, although I can half understand it because in the spoken language they sound exactly the same.

In the written language though, it is jarring.

It's definitely Pedants' Corner. 😉😃 Just being pedantic. 🤣
