... to use this company?

www.stoneaffects.co.uk/

Followed a lorry today and can't decide if it was deliberate. Thing is even if it was no one will know, they'll just think they're idiots! And if I was a signwriter I don't know if I could bring myself to do this without saying something!

Not sure - to be honest it's not just the van, is it? The company website has 'Affects' too.

girlygirly · 25/08/2023 18:39

Yes, the company name is Stone Affects. I really want to phone them up and what exactly their stone does affect...

Presumably they're using it in the sense of a mood or feeling- a shit name but not incorrect.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 25/08/2023 18:41

Stone affects what?

I really don’t think they are!

I was on a website for a branded food product (available from all major supermarkets) to see if it was cheaper to buy directly from them. On the front page in large print was written, 'we now except online orders'.

ChrisPPancake · 25/08/2023 18:53

Stone does affect you if you drop it on your foot though!

Stone Effects would make me more likely to think that they were selling faux stoneware.

I don’t think that’s much of a selling point Grin

donquixotedelamancha · 25/08/2023 19:08

Surely they are just using affect to mean pretend? It seems fine to me.

Stone Affect does not, and cannot, mean pretend stone.

Merapi · 25/08/2023 22:13

I regularly follow a large lorry on my way to work in the mornings, the rear doors of which bear the legend:

'Your only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!'

butterpuffed · 25/08/2023 22:43

Perhaps it's an affectation they've used for effect. 😉

Thighdentitycrisis · 25/08/2023 23:07

Hee he I love these and want to contact them and congratulate them on their brilliant name idea, who came up with it.

CrappyBarbara · 25/08/2023 23:16

Maybe they are just referring to really flat non-expressive moods.

No but it can mean stoney appearance (in the way you might talk about someone's facial expression as their affect). I think that's what it means.

It's like one of terrible pun names businesses have, except less obvious.

Their pluralisation of ‘affects’ indicates that they meant to use ‘effects.’

FlamingYam · 26/08/2023 23:28

I'd assume all their focus has gone into their stonework which they are the best at?!

I once had a customer account that had spelt guard wrong. I wondered why no one had corrected him along the way.

Maybe it's a play on something that they do?

I absolutely love the smell of this but I could never bring myself to have it in my house. Even if I managed to soak off the label, I would always know it had been there.

Missing the point I know, but what are apple embers?
