... in Tim and Sarahs.

For example:

Tomorrow night we are going to dinner at Tim and Sarahs.

Should it be:

Tommorow night we are going to dinner at Tim's and Sarah's

or

Tim and Sarah's

or

Tim and Sarahs'

I realise I need to get a life but I texted this sentence to my sister today and it irked me that I wasn't sure.

I thank you

Tim and Sarah's. Short for Tim and Sarah's house.

Maidamess · 24/01/2008 20:21

I would say Tim and Sarah's.

LyraSilvertongue · 24/01/2008 20:21

The third option would indicate that there were two or more Sarahs

onepieceoflollipop · 24/01/2008 20:22

LyraSilvertongue is right - I think.

If you put Tim's and Sarah's this would be odd as you would really be saying "Tim's house and Sarah's house" which is clumsy and not correct! (I think)

Bink · 24/01/2008 20:22

It would be Tim & Sarah's if anything (def. not Tim & Sarahs') but it's one of those odd ones where it's such informal vernacular anyway there aren't really rules to go by. Except not Sarahs' unless Tim is a polygamist.

(Dodge it the poncy way & say we are going to dinner chez Tim & Sarah.)

Desiderata · 24/01/2008 20:22

Option 2 is correct.

onepieceoflollipop · 24/01/2008 20:23

incorrect rather than not correct.

I get very nervous when typing on this of thread!

MegaLegs · 24/01/2008 20:23

Good, good Lyra - yes that is how I did it.

I never used to think about stuff like this, it's all Mumsnet's fault (Mumsnet's or Mumsnets' there's only one Mumsnet but I'm talking to the group) .

It's good though.

LOL at the more than one Sarah bit - not only do they have Pampas grass in their front garden they also have a jacuzzi - however, they assure me they are not swingers.
