DC is in year 6. This week we have a leaver's assembly, a leaver's lunch and a leaver's play. There was also a leaver's prom last week. It's so exasperating!

The poor leaver must be frazzled, having to do all that on their own!

bluechameleon · 25/07/2022 12:50

I used to teach in a special school with very varying numbers in each year group and one year we did just have one Leaver. Made the assembly quite interesting! (Obviously not the point of the thread)

I agree it’s a bit much - leaving primary to start in a big secondary school must be daunting and all this hype around it probably doesn’t help. A leavers assembly and a party or disco is nice. Everything else is overkill.

@EV117 - it's the apostrophe placement OP is pointing out, not the number of events. It's suggesting there is only one child leaving.

MackenCheese · 25/07/2022 13:09

There is a whole generation who do not understand apostrophes. It's irritating!

iklboo · 25/07/2022 13:19

There is definitely a rise of Rampant Incorrect Apostrophe Usage Syndrome. DS brought a reading book home few years ago called

How The Elephant Got It's Trunk

EV117 · 25/07/2022 13:31

Oh, haha, I didn’t realise I’d wandered into the the pedants’ corner @iklboo I’ll leave, I don’t belong here unfortunately 😂
(very carefully checking my apostrophes as I head off…)

MassiveSalad22 · 25/07/2022 13:35

I could care less (😂) EXCEPT when these things come from a bloody SCHOOL!!! My year 2 child knows how to use apostrophes for the most part, it is really not hard.

Do you know why that is? I encountered a young teacher a few years ago, who appeared not to understand apostrophes.

Schools are sometimes the worst for howlers. Not an apostrophe, but I still remember being amused that the regular menu sheet sent out included the info that in addition to a hot or cold option, rolls and crudities would be freely available each lunchtime. I think the dinner ladies did get a bit short-tempered sometimes!
