Mental health is nothing to be ashamed of

A family member posted this status with a “Let’s see how many of my friends are brave enough to repost this”

Surely, this means the opposite of what they think it means.

I find that phrase infuriating - it's somehow suggesting that mental health is a separate part of us, instead of part of everyone's make-up.
As if it's different and a singularly identifiable part of the body, like a limb or your stomach.

And in my experience at least, this particular sentence is posted by people who have no concept of what mental health means and how to ensure, promote and sustain it in themselves or others, sadly.

And yes, I agree that it's ironic to post such a "challenge".

This drives me mad; If you have “mental health” surely that’s a good thing??

StillWeRise · 19/05/2022 20:17

you are right of course
you could always try pointing it out

Surely we all have 'mental health' whether it be good or bad. Should it rather have said 'poor mental health' or 'mental ill health' is nothing to be ashamed of?

And yes to the annoying yadda yadda of 'lets see how many of my friends, etc'....

Johnnysgirl · 19/05/2022 20:56

Haha, yes it's complete nonsense.
A bit like "I could care less".

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 19/05/2022 21:01

Physical health is nothing to be ashamed of either.
Some people are not very bright are they?

Poor mental health is nothing of which to be ashamed.

My local weekly paper currently has a headline saying something like JOHN VOWS TO FIGHT MENTAL HEALTH.
