I like the mug, but it keeps bothering me 😉

Is this grammatically correct please?

Maybe it should technically be 'The dog loves me more?'

Ithinkitsadoughnut · 19/05/2022 13:30

I want it to say 'the most'.

Try saying it with a Yorkshire or Lancashire accent? No, still doesn't work.

Palmfrond · 19/05/2022 13:36

I think it’s correct; Well loved. Best loved.
Though it’s perhaps a bit anachronistic to transpose those as “loves well”, “loves best”?
Or maybe I’m wrong and it’s just bad English.

I need a decision as it's making my coffee taste bitter.😁I tried Google, but that didn't help.

Sound correct to me. Does this help OP.

I just googled 'best, meaning and this came up

adverb

to the highest degree; most (used with verbs suggesting a desirable action or state or a successful outcome).

"they named the pictures they liked best"

Similar: most

Ignore my misuse of commas; I'm on my phone and it had a mind of its own.

perfectly grammatically correct.

mewkins · 19/05/2022 13:54

Can you use a sharpie and add 'of all' to it?

You’re a poet and you don’t even know it.

I suppose it depends on whether it is trying to say a) that the dog loves you better than anyone else, or b) that the dog loves you more than it loves anyone else. It's a question of quality v quantity.

Of course it could also be saying that the dog loves you better (or more) than anyone else loves you.

Your mug. You choose!

That's interesting. I was reading it as B, but it actually makes sense as A. You have saved the coffee mug from the charity shop!
