Why can’t people spell lose?!

MsWalterMitty · 12/01/2022 19:45

I love reading through the dieting topics on here, they’ve really helped and everyone’s so supportive…. Maybe i am BU!!!! But the amount of posters who can’t distinguish between lose and loose is really annoying!

Counsellor is my bugbear!

PinkPlantCase · 12/01/2022 19:47

What does lose mean? I don’t think I knew it was a word 🤣

Gettingusedtothelimelight · 12/01/2022 19:47

Bit like people that use i instead of I 😂

Handsnotwands · 12/01/2022 19:47

It’s because it has an ooo sound like loo or poo

Lose feels like it should be lowse

Watto1 · 12/01/2022 19:47

Breathe and breath used in place of each other drives me bonkers. Also advice/advise.

DowntonCrabby · 12/01/2022 19:48

I used to be a judgemental dick (internally, never openly on a public forum) about SP&G too until my eldest was diagnosed with dyslexia and I grew up.

SukiPook · 12/01/2022 19:48

I know, loose instead of lose does my head in 😄. One mistake I see a lot that makes me chuckle is "defiantly" instead of "definitely", as it really changes the meaning of the sentence.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/01/2022 19:49

I hate should of instead of should have

Port1aCastis · 12/01/2022 19:51

Some members are dyslexic

LizBennet · 12/01/2022 19:51

You soon get used to seeing mistakes. Shrug and move on 🤷🏼‍♀️

Lunaballoon · 12/01/2022 19:51

OMG yes, and it’s often in otherwise perfectly written posts Shock

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 12/01/2022 19:51

Lose/ loose
Breath/ breathe
Your /you're
I see these all the time , does my head in

DappledThings · 12/01/2022 19:52

I've seen loose on a gravestone. If ever there was somewhere to double check spelling it would be there.

Not forgetting those who start a sentence with "but".

Hi OP

We're just moving this over to pedants corner!

That’s Perry bad!… I saw ‘such is life’ on a grave stone once!

Seriously though, dyslexia and different levels of education are just two possible reasons.

It's the rogue apostrophes that get my goat.

Or alternatively

Its the rogue apostrophe's that get my goat

Wow. Good to know that people on here are so judgmental of people who haven’t had a good education or are dyslexic. What a way to make people feel like they can’t post.

MsWalterMitty · 12/01/2022 19:57

Not forgetting those who start a sentence with "but".

Or the excessive use of exclamation marks!!!

Not on here but I see a lot of we’re for we’ll and you’re for you’ll.
“We’re do that next week”
“You’re be ok don’t worry.”
Usually on FB/IG and in text messages.
Sets my teeth on edge 😬

What would be wrong with replying "thanks, I didn't know that. I'll be able to spell it correctly the next time now"?

Some people seem to want to continue spelling things incorrectly when it's pointed out, in some kind of inverse snobbery.
