OK. This is driving me mad right now.

Anyone else noticing (everywhere!!) the plural being used as the singular?!? I'm noticing it on Active Threads on MN, but far more prevalent on bloody Reddit. Grrrrr!

'I'm a strong, independent women'.

Yes, it's very irritating. I suspect autocorrect might have something to do with it.

Lizzie523 · 07/06/2021 00:21

I'm experiencing the opposite. People using woman for both the singular and the plural. It really irritates me and I need to think for a minute about what they mean exactly.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 07/06/2021 00:33

Yes pisses me off too - nobody says “I’m a strong independent men” so why the difficulty with woman/women?!

I guess the wo part is pronounced differently, so maybe that confused people, but it is v annoying to me that an actual woman doesn’t know how to write woman!

Cheeeeislifenow · 07/06/2021 00:35

I have seen this so much recently. I find it annoying. "My strong little women".

yupyupyup · 07/06/2021 00:40

Absolutely!

Yes, I think autocorrect is playing a role here. Also, maybe non-English speakers. I just wish these errors would be filtered out before being published! I can accept that language evolves, but I can't accept it when it makes something read completely different.

Don't get me started on then/than!

One of the hosts on a podcast I listen to keeps using the singular as the plural. Drives me mad.

They are completely different words and sounds.

The 'woo' in woman.
And the 'wih' in women.

I don't understand where the confusion comes from. Bloody education in this country! 😆
