It’s fascinating to see how people add redundancy to words.
To “step” on something means “to set foot” on it. So “to step foot” means to set foot foot!
My other pet hate is “to return back”.
To return means to come back.
So “return back” means “to come back back”.
I’m autistic as well as a pedant and it makes me grind my teeth!

I haven't actually heard step foot. My pet hate is "hence why". Hence does not need why to follow it.
