DS24 or DS, 24? Have the rules changed?

I have been on MN now for some years, under a few different IDs. When I started posting, the abbreviation DS2 meant my second born son. DS4 would have been my fourth born son and so on....

It now seems to be standard that DS6 means my six year old son, DS2 my two year old son etc..

Am I the only one still reading about somebody's DS24 and thinking "wow they have a lot of children" before the penny drops.

Have the rules changed?

I've only been around about four years but thought it was DD2 - second daughter, and DD(2) - daughter age 2.

No one seems to bother now though.

Yes, that format makes sense to me too @Frlrlrubert.

I was thinking about this earlier today for some unknown reason! I think that DD2 (17) makes the most sense personally. DD17 would definitely mean daughter number 17 to me.

It can get confusing can't it?

What bugs me though, is when someone gives their 2-year-old child's age in months.

I’m with you @willowpatterns - on a different forum I saw 62 months 😳 they weren’t taking the piss either
