I'm keen to gather opinions on using 'holic' as a suffix (chocoholic and workaholic).

Some reading around tells me it made it into the dictionary in the 1970s and is used to match the pattern of 'alcoholic'.

I really don't like it (but am aware that it is, technically, correct).

I would appreciate any information or opinions.

I don't like it either.
Theoretically, if alcohol gives alcoholic, work would give workic and chocolate would give chocolatic.

Other ones to consider are -esque and -gate.
