I'm just curious which of these phrases people would use if someone had asked them to fill in a form and they wanted to express that it was complete.

What's the difference between these phrases do you think?

I'm second guessing myself here so would love to hear some opinions.

I’m done sounds like slang to me
I’m finished means something bad has happened to you doesn’t it?
I have finished or I’ve finished sounds right.

Seeline · 14/05/2018 11:26

I've finished (I have finished sounds wrong if I am saying it).

The other two are just wrong Grin

I hate it how eBay offers you the chance to click....

  • Woukd you like anything else?
  • Nothing else! I’m done!

(Or something like that)

Arghhhhhh

To me “I’m done” almost sounds aggressive, like you’re ending a relationship. “I’m finished” doesn’t sound right either, I’d opt for “I’ve finished” though over “I have finished” because the latter sounds very formal.

littlepill · 14/05/2018 11:28

“I have finished” is correct.

littlepill · 14/05/2018 11:29

I’m finished = have you finished the form, or has it finished you (off)? Grin

Sorry for typos in previous posts. Ironic for this forum, but this issue has bugged me for some time!

I’ve finished

Shadow666 · 14/05/2018 11:43

Thanks!

I think "I'm done" might be American. Or more commonly used in America. I wonder if "I'm finished" is also more commonly used in the US. "I've finished" seems to be the most common answer here.

Yes, those two more common in the US. I think they are still incorrect, however.

"I've finished."

I do use the phrase "I'm done" but only to mean "Fuck This Shit".
