While or whilst?

I know they're both technically correct. In fact "while" is more ancient.

But which do you prefer?

I do prefer "while". Not just to do with its longevity but because "whilst" can come across as affected imo.

I still use 'whilst' sometimes.

i.e. 'Whilst you might think....'

I use both, depending on context.

I don't think 'whilst' is affected at all.

Interesting Benny. I'd prefer "While" even in that context but acknowledge I'm probably in the minority.

To me it's like a less extreme version of the "myself" thread in that "while" is correct and the original grammar. However people think "whilst" conveys a grander effect.** And that's why it's caught on.
