Hi! New to mums net, but heard good things...
My 14 year old, gradually pushing for more independence, wants to stay at a new friends house. The friend doesn't go to the same school and has a non-English speaking parent. I have to say, that although I trust my child, I feel uncomfortable not being able to communicate with the parent. How should I go about getting reassurance that things are as my child says they are when we have a language barrier?

I wouldn't expect to have much communication with parents at that age anyway. My dd is 13 and I haven't met any of the parents of her new secondary school parents, although she hasn't stayed over night with any of them.

Maybe ask your dd to invite the friend to your house.
