I have just seen yet another post using the word brought when the poster means bought. It is everywhere. WHY do so many people not seem to know the difference between these two words?
And why does it annoy me so much?

I'm glad you bought this to my attention.

Don't know why it annoys you so much. Perhaps you could strike up a beautiful friendship with the op of this thread from a few days ago?

While we're on the subject, you borrow FROM someone and lend TO someone.

IT's one I always have to think about, despite being reasonably well educated. Blush It just doesn't stick.
I think 'bring and buy' therefore 'brought and bought' - seems to work Grin
The other one I always get muddled is effect and affect.

There are plenty of other mistakes that I glide right over, but this one just narks the shite out of me. It is two different words entirely!

You perhaps need to post in AIBU.

The regulars on PC a) know this b) don't feel the need to slag off other people's errors c) get bored with these weekly threads

Personally, I have a problem with people beginning sentences with conjunctions. Wink

They are, absolutely right. I am a pot to their kettle!

Ok. a) of course you know this
b) I don't believe anyone has been slagged off here
and c) terribly sorry, your Pedantic Highness, to intrude.
