Slither/Sliver ?

I am busy browsing online for holidays.

On the Thomson site I am told that the hotel is footsteps away from a slither of white sand.

Surely it should be sliver ?

I thought it was sliver of cake v slithering snake.

A sliver of white sand sounds terrible, though - as though there'll be too little of it.

Thanks Hummus

Has slither become the more commonly used word by default, perhaps ?

I agree that a sliver of sand doesn't sound like there would be much room for putting a towel down for sunbathing :)

I would be worried about how many snakes were on the beach to make it slither. Give me the sliver anyday.

Just noted that US spellcheck tries to correct sliver to slither.

Possibly just a case of someone's error going unchecked during proofing.
