Comma splices in school newsletter

The school newsletter usually has a few typos, but this week the head teacher's letter had about 8 comma splices. I winced every time. Seems especially bad as the school is focusing so much on grammar...

Examples are

We love learning in our school, this week I was delighted to see x and y...

I hope you enjoyed the Xmas service, many thanks to the vicar...

Thank you for all your cards and Christmas gifts, we do appreciate them...

Argh!

I can tolerate that. I can not tolerate incorrect use of apostrophe's apostrophes.

The third one is OK. But it's a school and they are supposed to be teaching this stuff correctly I need a lie down so YANBU.

I agree about the apostrophes. Why do people have a list of plurals and then stick an apostrophe in one of them? What criteria do they use for whether or not something needs one? Now look what you've done! Set me off!
