On MN, I probably see this more than 'etc.', although I haven't noticed it as much elsewhere. I don't think it is a typo; people seem to genuinely think it is correct.

My hypothesis is that people are abbreviating 'ec cetera', so the 'c' has to come before the 't'.

What do you pedants think?

Or 'ect' looks more like a word, maybe. Because they have no idea that it is an abbreviation of et cetera.

It annoys me so much that I saw the thread title and winced, then realised it was in Pedants' corner and felt relieved.
