I work in a school and every teacher says this!

It drives me crazy.

You should be sat down.
I was sat on the bench.

Sitting, people. Sitting.

Why is it so difficult?AngryAngry

I hate that one too. Many teachers have appauling English grammar.

isitsnowingyet · 25/05/2014 10:45

It sounds common. Is your school a common school?

isitsnowingyet · 25/05/2014 10:46

Oh gosh and isn't is 'appalling'?

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 25/05/2014 10:51

Oops - I spell checked that too. Knew I'd get it wrong. At least that's a spelling mistake and not one of the grammatical ones I was moaning about clutching at straws

Lol @ common school. GrinGrin

The teachers are certainly not common......even the Deputy Head says it.

Teacher I work with is well spoken but also says 'like' in every other sentence.Angry

She is picking up bad habits!

It's right up there with 'what I done was...' Shock

The best thing I heard from a schoolchild in Nottingham was: 'I don't not know nothing not no more' Hmm my head nearly exploded!

calzone · 25/05/2014 11:16

A few others......

I writ....
I done....
I brung....

You must be in Derbyshire or somewhere near there, it's a bit of a northern phrase isn't it?

Squeegle · 25/05/2014 11:20

I agree it's appalling btw.

calzone · 25/05/2014 12:03

No.....south east!!

Oh! How shocking, I didn't know it was so rife! Wink

SconeRhymesWithGone · 25/05/2014 16:19

I don't know whether it is a regional UK thing, but it is all over MN. I like hearing people complain about it, though, because it is one thing that you cannot blame on Americans. Grin

calzone · 27/05/2014 17:16

Scone.....lol! So true. SmileSmile

Wrong, unless the teacher means that the child should be picked uop and physically placed down on the chair by someone else.

JustLikeHoney · 22/06/2014 10:04

Oh my goodness this drives me crazy - is it endemic throughout the whole UK?

Every second post on Mumsnet seems to start 'We were stood...', 'I was sat...' How can people stand it? My jaw actually begins grinding when I read it.
