"meeted and greeted"? Really? Really?? Did you really, honestly, truly mean to say that?

I don't know the context (haven't heard of them!) but presumably they were talking about 'meet & greet' in the past. It's a phrase that doesn't translate to the past 'was met and greeted' because you lose the rhyme and the connotations, but 'meeted and greeted' does sound awful.

Can't win! And I don't know the answer.
