Invite is a verb. I will invite you to the pedants' party.

Invitation is a noun. I will send you an invitation.

I think invite is used as an abbreviation. Doesn't make it right though !

This infuriates my mum too. it is one of her favourite topics.She's an old school English teacher. I'll tell her that she's not aloneGrin .

YES YES YES. My Mum was very strict on this too and so am I. She also hated "the electric" as in "have you paid the electric bill yet?". Really, did the bill light up and flash??

Yes, I'm aftaid this makes me really judgy.
Where do we stand on relation vs. relatives? Everybody around me in rl says relation, I think relative, who's correct?
