Have we done this one already? 'Excited for...'

When did 'excited about' get replaced by 'excited for'? It drives me insane. People on Facebook are always 'excited for' something or other. Is it used in US English, or is it one of those 'worldwide English' phrases like 'for sure'?

This one has passed me by. I'd use "excited for" a person to mean on that person's behalf, never instead of "excited about" or, indeed, "excited over".

Exactly! But now people say, 'I'm excited for Tuesday' as if Tuesday's a person, not an upcoming event.

"Excited about" is definitely preferred usage in the US.

Drives me crazy too. I've heard it a few times recently. Just awful.
