I hear this all the time.
From grown people. Without SN of any sort. At work.

'DS fell off the swings and hurted his head'
'DM had an accident and hurted her arm'.

It is enough to make me want to hurt them...

Please don't say 'it's a regional thing' and it's ok.

Even the pedants don't care...

I care too! When my DSs say it it's quite endearing, but, I still correct them.
