What would be a metric equivalent of 'inching along' ?

I like the phrase but it's (very mildly) bugging me!

'Creeping along' just doesn't work as well for me

No, I don't need to know for any specific reason. It's just an expression I've found myself using and idly wondered about bringing into the 21st century!
