When you ask the person who types ect what it says, they say et cetera - it's not that they don't know. It just doesn't make sense to write it like that. I know that this is not a problem on the scale of, say, third world debt.

I believe the solution is subliminal advertising in main stream TV programmes. Flash up ETC every few minutes and see if we can correct the problem.

Personally I believe in public flogging for most commonly made grammatical mistakes so you're preaching to the right audience here.

In my experience, the cretins people who write 'ect' are the same ones who say 'exet-ra'.
