No. Because that would be slow wouldn't it? And you mean fast.

It's Nineteen to the dozen.

They had it on Corrie the other day, IIRC Leanne saying how excited Simon was, he was talking ten to the dozen. Hmm Then today in the Daily Mail I don't buy it, I sometimes read someone else's there was an editorial that had 'ten to the dozen'.

Aaargh!

Couldn't agree more - my dh says this because he knows it drives me up the wall. I've also heard a few times "they're two-a-penny", which is really not very many, is it? This is why it's "ten-a-penny". Maybe people are confusing the two?

MirandaGoshawk · 20/07/2012 19:08

Ooh, I haven't heard the 'two a penny' thing. But people copy what they hear, I suppose, and sometimes they hear it wrongly.

Yesterday DD (18) told me that her friend is taking part in a Medieval Jousting tournament - she's going to be the damson in distress Grin.

ROFL at the damson Grin

can I add "the proof is in the pudding", please?

My husband says 'ten to the dozen' and it drives me' barmy. He's northern and I think it's a local variation - normally I'm all in favour of respecting dialect forms, but in this case the whole of Yorkshire is wrong and I am right.

iklboo · 20/07/2012 19:22

Unless 'ten to the dozen' is ten to the power of a dozen. In which case, it's a lot Grin.

Jux · 20/07/2012 19:33

Notnow, agree, but in this particular case it's the whole of Yorkshire, the DM and the EE scriptwriters who are wrong!

On the other hand, it could mean succinct? Not terribly succinct, admittedly, as that would be more like two to the dozen (wish my dh would try that). Wink

MirandaGoshawk · 22/07/2012 20:23

Thank you. I'm so glad that we are right and Yorkshire (and the rest) are wrong. Smile

I posted on this before. It drives me mad and I have to try very hard not to correct people all the time.
