Help! James' or James's?

I've always thought its the former but DP (who is called James) thinks its the latter. Which of us is right? I'm doing a photobook for a friend whose son is called James and want to get it right.
TIA

Yeah, true. I tend to go with how things sound, though, as if I've got a narrator, invisible friend kindly reading out loud for me. But, on reflection, Daisy is right. James's it is Smile

James's.
Always James's

I will not budge on this

So why write it without the extra s?! Why create ambiguity for the sake of an s?! I'm with nickel Grin

Why is it nicer than any other name that doesn't end with 's'? Why not just end all possessives with ' then?!

wishiwasonholiday · 19/05/2012 18:31

James' my ds is Thomas and I would write Thomas'.

Trestle · 19/05/2012 22:30

James'

nickelbabe · 21/05/2012 12:06

\link{http://www.leedsth.nhs.uk/patients-and-visitors/our-hospitals/st-james-university-hospital/\St James's Hospital} (Jimmy's)

\link{http://www.stadiumguide.com/stjamespark/\St James' Park} - now officially the Sports Direct Arena (probably changed purely to avoid apostrophe catastrophes Wink)

I'm with DaisySteiner on this.

I live between St James' Drive and St James's Church and I am sure the church was there first

For me it has to be James's as the other looks incomplete !

It's getting worse with random punctuation appearing in some names these days...
